NATIONAL AMBULANCE SERVICE – GREATER ACCRA REGION LAUNCHES REFRESHER TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR EMTS

The Greater Accra Regional Office of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) has commenced a structured refresher training programme for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) in the region. This initiative, which began on Wednesday, 30th April 2025, at the Anyaa Sowutuom Ambulance Station, aims to enhance the competencies, professionalism, and overall quality of patient care delivered by EMTs across the region.

The training modules encompass Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionalism. Participants also engage in practical sessions including hands-on drills and simulation exercises designed to improve critical patient handling, effective handovers at medical facilities, and coordination with dispatch systems.

The programme is being delivered in zonal sessions and will continue throughout the year, targeting all EMTs within the region. The first cohort included 50 EMTs from the Anyaa Sowutuom, Ablekuma North (Awoshie), Obuom Domeabra, and Okai Kwei Central (Lapaz) Ambulance Stations, all of whom successfully completed the training.

The official launch was graced by several dignitaries including:

He emphasized the importance of continuous professional development and announced that similar programmes would be replicated in other regions across the country.

The Regional Administrator, PAEMT Dr. Daniel Asare, expressed gratitude to the CEO and facilitators for their unwavering support. He encouraged EMTs to take full advantage of the programme to sharpen their clinical and operational skills, which are critical to saving lives in emergency situations.

This initiative aligns with the National Ambulance Service’s broader mandate to deliver high-quality emergency medical services and demonstrates its commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in pre-hospital care delivery.
