In the early hours of Monday, March 2, 2026, our heroes in green SEMT Anthony Donkor and EMT Alexander Adu Blowing found themselves in a battle for their lives while on a mission of mercy.
Returning from a critical patient handover at Tamale Teaching Hospital, Ambulance GV-657-20 was approaching the first security barrier at Yendi around 03:12 hrs when the unthinkable happened.
Assailants opened fire, turning a routine return trip into a "kill zone."
THE BRAVERY UNDER FIRE
The windscreen shattered and both front tyres were blasted out by gunfire.
In a split-second display of professional skill and raw courage, SEMT Anthony Donkor didn't panic. Under direct fire, he engaged the reverse gear and executed a high-speed tactical retreat, maneuvering the crippled vehicle 0.5 km to the safety of the Yendi Police Checkpoint.
CURRENT STATUS
The Crew: Both SEMT Donkor and EMT Blowing are physically safe and uninjured, with the vehicle at the police checkpoint.
The Ambulance: Vehicle GV-657-20 sustained significant damage, including a collapsed windscreen and two deflated/blasted front tyres. A full inspection for further ballistic damage is pending.
A CALL FOR APPRECIATION
