The Medical Superintendent of the Bibiani Municipal Hospital, Dr. Ernest Mantey, has assured the National Ambulance Service (NAS) in the Western North Region of a reliable and uninterrupted oxygen supply once the hospital’s oxygen plant facility, currently over 95 percent complete, becomes fully operational.
The assurance was given during a working visit by the Acting Western North Regional Administrative Manager of NAS, DCAEMT James Hackman, and his management team. The delegation included the Regional Emergency Medical Dispatch Manager, the Regional Clinical Auditor, and the Regional Training Officer.
The visit formed part of NAS’s ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with key healthcare institutions and enhance emergency healthcare delivery across the region. Discussions focused on improving collaboration between the two institutions, particularly in the areas of emergency response, patient referrals, and the provision of critical care services.
A major highlight of the engagement was the discussion on maternal and neonatal emergency referrals. Both NAS and the management of Bibiani Municipal Hospital agreed on practical measures to prioritize the transportation and referral of maternal and neonatal emergency cases to appropriate receiving facilities. This initiative is expected to facilitate timely access to specialized care and contribute to improved health outcomes for mothers and newborns.
The meeting also explored strategies to improve coordination between healthcare providers and emergency medical services, with the aim of reducing response times and ensuring seamless patient transfers within the municipality and beyond.
Dr. Mantey reiterated the hospital’s commitment to supporting the operations of NAS, emphasizing that the completion of the oxygen plant would significantly enhance the availability of medical oxygen for emergency care and other critical medical interventions.
Also present at the meeting were Dr. Felix Adja, Surgeon; Ms. Anna Koomson, Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS); and Mr. Bernard Mensah, Hospital Administrator. The hospital management pledged its continued clinical and administrative support to NAS as both institutions work together to improve healthcare delivery and strengthen emergency medical services in the Western North Region.
The visit further reinforced the longstanding collaboration between NAS and Bibiani Municipal Hospital and highlighted the importance of strong partnerships in advancing efficient referral systems, quality emergency care, and better health outcomes for the people of the region.
