Management and staff of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) have participated in a comprehensive Emotional Intelligence (EI) training programme aimed at enhancing leadership effectiveness, workplace relationships, and overall organizational performance.
The training, organized by the Training and Development Unit of the Service, was held at the NAS Headquarters Conference Room in Accra. The programme sought to equip participants with practical emotional intelligence skills necessary for effective communication, sound decision-making, conflict management, and teamwork in a dynamic work environment.
Addressing participants, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr. George Kojo Owusu, underscored the importance of emotional intelligence in professional and leadership development. He encouraged participants to actively engage in the training and apply the knowledge gained to improve interpersonal relationships, strengthen collaboration, and enhance service delivery.
According to Dr. Owusu, emotional intelligence is an essential competency for professionals, particularly in emergency medical services, where staff are often required to make critical decisions, manage stressful situations, and interact compassionately with patients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
Facilitated by Rev. Benny Osei-Duah, the training provided participants with practical insights into key areas of emotional intelligence, including an introduction to emotional intelligence, the five pillars of emotional intelligence, emotional intelligence for workplace effectiveness, and emotional intelligence in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, participants explored strategies for self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, motivation, and relationship management, being core competencies that contribute to effective leadership and a positive organizational culture.
The training forms part of NAS’s ongoing commitment to staff development and capacity building, ensuring that personnel are equipped not only with technical expertise but also with the interpersonal and leadership skills required to deliver quality pre-hospital emergency care across the country.
