The Western North Regional Minister, Hon. Wilbert Petty Brentum, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening emergency medical services across the region by supporting the expansion of NAS and facilitating office accommodation for the Service in all districts.
The assurance was given during a meeting with a delegation from the National Ambulance Service at the Western North Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Sefwi Wiawso.
As part of efforts to improve emergency healthcare delivery, Hon. Brentum pledged support for the construction of district-level office facilities for the Service. He further directed NAS officials to work closely with the RCC’s Technical and Planning Departments to identify and map both existing and proposed ambulance stations. The exercise forms part of a broader strategy to enhance ambulance coverage and strengthen emergency response capabilities throughout the region.
The Minister also expressed his readiness to support the Service in engaging relevant regulatory institutions to facilitate Basic Life Support (BLS) and safety training programmes for citizens in both the public and private sectors. The proposed training initiative is expected to benefit stakeholders in the hospitality and transport industries, timber processing companies, small-scale mining firms, banking institutions, and community volunteer groups.
According to Hon. Brentum, the initiative aims to improve healthcare delivery, promote compliance with safety standards, reduce emergency response times, and strengthen the region’s first-responder network—an essential component of an effective Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system.
The commitment was made during a working visit by officials of the National Ambulance Service led by the Acting Western North Regional Administrative Manager, DCAEMT James Hackman. Discussions centered on operational challenges confronting the Service and opportunities for greater collaboration and institutional support.
In his remarks, the Regional Minister underscored the critical role played by the National Ambulance Service in healthcare delivery and emergency response. He assured the delegation of the RCC’s continued commitment to supporting the Service’s mandate and operations. He also commended NAS for the professional medical standby services it provided during the recent military recruitment and enlistment exercise conducted in the region.
Also present at the meeting was Mr. Collins Ohene Gyan, Regional Planner, who pledged the support of his unit in providing the technical expertise required to advance the Service’s operational and infrastructure expansion agenda across the Western North Region.
The meeting highlighted the shared commitment of the Regional Coordinating Council and the National Ambulance Service to improving access to emergency healthcare and ensuring a more efficient, responsive, and accessible ambulance service for residents of the Western North Region.
